Your finger nails are made of protein layers. The nail has different parts that make it up. Nails are very essential for everyone and they reflect your health. Unhealthy nails could mean you have other health problems. The nails grow from the nail matrix which is under the cuticle. As cells grow in the matrix, they make the older cells to get harder and more strengthened. These cells grow as the nails which you can see with your eyes. Cells are not usually visible with naked eyes but these hardened cells can be seen. Finger nails grow everyday and it is estimated that they grow at a rate of 0.1 mm each day. The toe nails grow slower than your finger nails. Their rate of growth is 1mm per month.
Sometimes your nails may have problems which will affect their growth. These include:
• Fungal infections that can make your nails stop growing completely. The fungus causes infection which affects the skin around the nails. This can be caused by exposure to harsh chemicals. Some working conditions can make your hands get infections because you are not allowed to use gloves. Warts and tumors can also make your nails grow slowly. You have to undergo surgical treatment to get rid of them
• You can inhibit the growth of your nails if you bite them more often. The nails will always be looking ugly and unhealthy. This leads to damage of the skin surrounding your nails.
• Lack of vitamins in your food can make your nails have growth problems. Eat vegetables and fruits to ensure that your body has enough vitamins. Make sure that you take vitamins daily to keep your nails growing without problems.
Make sure you take good care of your nails and they will grow properly.
